Colon Cleanse, Laxative or Not?
Cynthia Papp
There are many colon cleanse products on the market, but many of these use harmful or addictive laxatives. A true cleanse should make your body stronger, not make it dependent.
There are numerous colon cleanse and body cleansing products on the markets these days. Cleansing, as it turns out, is big money. Supplement use is big money, which is why you see the pharmaceutical companies joining in the selling campaign these days.
Unfortunately, to feed consumer's need for immediate results, laxatives are added to many cleansing products, because this will bring fairly quick results. This would naturally lead one to believe the product really works! But a laxative, nature made or not, can be habit forming, bringing the opposite effect desired by those who cleanse.
True cleansing will help the body release the buildup of toxins and mucoid plaque in the small intestine. As the process continues and your body becomes "cleaner," it will become stronger and more efficient. This leads to better health, naturally.
To understand the difference, it is best to know how supplements work. A laxative works because it is a mild toxin. This toxin enters your body, your body recognizes it as a toxin so treats it as such. Your body's response is to send "water" from all other parts of your body to your intestine or colon to dilute the toxin, then spasms to move the toxin out. This is why cramping often occurs, though some may not even feel the cramping. It can also be very dehydrating in the long run. This toxin in question may be a pharmaceutical or could be "natural."
The natural toxin most used is an herb called senna. This toxin can be habit forming. It only takes a few days to become dependent on it. If you use a product with senna in it, it is best to slowly "wean" yourself off the product, not just suddenly stop using it. This could lead to constipation as your body has become used to a stimulant "forcing" it to work.
Natural stimulants such as cascara sagrada, buckthorn bark and triphala work better for a cleanse. All of these stimulate the release of natural hormonal oils in the intestinal tract, which then leads to peristalsis (muscular contractions of the digestive tract). This natural release, in a way, "trains" your body to work on it's own, instead of forcing it to work. As you come off of a colon cleanse with this type of herb, your system should be able to work on it's own naturally, providing you are eating well and you "cleansed" long enough.
When searching for a good colon cleanse product, be sure to check your ingredients. True body cleansing will assist your body's natural ability to cleanse itself. The herbs should provide nutrition which gives strength to your organs. It is a slow process since it can take 10-30 years to build up the excess waste. Knowing this, you see that it may take a year or two to undo the damage. To learn more visit Springclean-cleanse.com.

Colon Cleanse Recipes - Is it Possible to Make My Own?
Peter Crump
Searching for colon cleanse recipes can be a bit like hunting for hay in a haystack - there's so many of them around that it can be just a little overwhelming! But while it might be simple enough to find a free colon cleanse recipe using the Internet, there's no guarantee that the homemade cleanser you end up with will be any good, or even match your particular needs. So while it might be eminently possible to make your own effective colon cleanser in the comfort of your own home, it makes sense to exercise some care before you start to purchase the ingredients suggested by a free colon cleaner recipe you stumble across on the internet. As with any information you find, from any source, remember that it was put together by another mere mortal like yourself. Be sure to check the credentials of the writer of any colon cleanse recipe you find. Many free recipes have been put together by alternative health professionals, while some will simply be the result of the homemade trial and error of a concerned colon owner like yourself. Find out any details you can about the ingredients used in the recipes you find, and make sure they are generally considered safe for human consumption before you put them in your body. That said, there are a few colon cleanse recipe ingredients that have stood the test of time quite well, and are generally thought to yield good results. These include such natural ingredients as psyllium husks or seeds, which offer the bulk your colon needs to cleanse itself of any build up of waste material - this ingredient is often found in the recipes of store-bought colon cleaners, a testimony to its safety and efficacy. Probiotics are another frequent ingredient in both homemade and store-bought colon cleanse recipes, as they help to increase the natural occurrence of the good bacteria that live in your digestive system and help it to flourish. The long use of this ingredient should indicate to you that its presence in any free colon cleanse recipe you find is a good thing. Many free colon cleanse recipes contain an extra ingredient that you will need to purchase from a particular vendor, and here is where you need to exercise some care. While the sellers of reputable products abound, there will always be some recipe purveyors who formulate cleansing programs and diets simply to sell their wares. Most of these products simply contain the ingredients mentioned previously, along with other herbs that can be purchased at your local health food store, so always try to read the virtual label of any recommended product your find on the Internet before you add it to your cleansing recipe. Creating your own colon cleansing recipe doesn't have to be a difficult task, and unless you have particular digestive trouble, sticking to a simple plan is best. If you are in any doubt, contact your alternative health practitioner - and never use a free colon cleansing recipe you are unsure of.

Colon Cleanse: The Advantages Of Using Psyllium
Barney Garcia
One of the most effective methods for colon cleansing is through the intake of dietary fibers. Natural fibers in food are of two categories, insoluble and soluble. The fibers add bulk to the waste matter in the intestine and help the intestine maintain regular bowel movement. Psyllium is the safest and widely accepted fiber for colon cleansing. Insoluble Fibers Wheat bran and other fibers made up of cellulose are insoluble in water. Water insoluble fibers cannot help in lowering the levels of cholesterol in the body, unlike water soluble fibers. Water Soluble Fibers Psyllium has water-soluble fibers, as does oat bran and pectin. Psyllium can absorb water like a sponge, which helps it to add bulk to the matter inside the colon. Psyllium: The Magic Remedy for Colon Disorders 1) Psyllium, apart from flushing out fecal matter, also flushes out cholesterol, thus lowering the harmful levels of cholesterol in the body. 2) Another advantage of using psyllium for colon cleanse is that it helps prevent diseases like colon cancer. 3) Psyllium helps ease chronic symptoms like diarrhea, colitis and constipation. 4) If you are on a fast while undergoing a colon cleanse program, psyllium can help reduce the hunger pangs, as it makes the digestive system feel full. 5) Inside the colon, psyllium bulks up and cleans out the colon by absorbing harmful chemicals inside it. 6) Psyllium regulates bowel movements and eases cases of alternate diarrhea and constipation. It is milder than chemical laxatives that cause diarrhea if taken in stronger doses. 7) Psyllium promotes the growth of friendly bacteria like Lactobacillus acidophilus in the body. These bacteria are generally present in the human digestive tract since childhood, but may be destroyed through antibiotics and bad dietary habits.
Psyllium is beneficial for diabetics, since it regulates the level of blood glucose by slowing down the absorption of food in the intestine. It increases the secretion of enzymes by the pancreas. Drinking the husk of psyllium dissolved in water or warm milk (optionally, you can add honey or maple syrup to taste) is one of the best methods of colon cleanse. Psyllium is a natural colon-cleansing agent and has no side effects. It is no wonder that people across the world have taken to psyllium as a remedy for bowel disorders and a method for achieving a healthy and clean digestive system.
