There has been a great deal of interest created in the global market regarding a tiny red fruit, know as the goji berry. It has been said, that by consuming just a small amount of this fruit on a daily basis, a persons life span will more than double, and maintain excellent health at the same time. Is this really true? Here are some facts about Tibetan goji berries.
Tibetan goji berries are the fruits of an ever green plant that grows naturally Tibet, China, and Mongolia. The Tibetan goji berry plant belongs to the Solonaceae family.
Tibetan goji berries are being sold on the market in two main forms. First as dried berries, and second as goji juice. Both of these forms are extremely beneficial to the human body. Another way of consuming this fruit is through tea, and soups. The main ingredients of the Tibetan goji berry are, beta-carotene, carotenoids, and zeaxanthin.
It is Important not to confuse the goji berry with the wolfberry that is a very similar, and is part of the same family as the goji berry. Because they are part of the same family and look similar to one another, many people tend to interchange their names. They will refer to goji berries wolfberry, and wolfberries as goji berries. However, on close inspection you will find that the goji berry is sweet and tasty, while the wolfberry is slightly bitter in taste. Both these berries have almost the same properties, but they are definitely not the same fruit.
Aside from being known to extend a persons longevity to a great extent, the zeaxanthin that is an active ingredient in the Tibetan goji berries, can prevent age-related macular degeneration as well.
Research studies show that goji berries are very helpful when it comes to controlling the spread of cancer, by inhibiting its cell reproduction ability. They also help to reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
You should be careful when it comes to taking goji berry supplement because they have ingredients that interfere with anti-coagulant drugs. If you are taking any drugs that contain anti-coagulants, you might experience some unfavorable side effects. Therefore, you should always check with your doctor before you begin experimenting with any new health drinks or supplements.
